12th Viet Nam-China People’s Forum Takes Place

On June 25, 2024, the 12th Viet Nam-China People’s Forum, co-organized by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, opened in Xiangtan city, Hunan province, China. The event was attended by 26 experts, scholars, intellectuals, journalists, and businesses of the two countries, who deeply understand Viet Nam – China relations.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, the President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations Phan Anh Son stressed that Viet Nam and China are neighboring countries with shared mountains and rivers; the people of the two countries have traditional friendly relations that were tenaciously built and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh, Chairman Mao Zedong, and senior leaders. The two Parties, the two Governments, and the two peoples of the two countries have supported and helped each other in the struggle for national liberation and construction, forming a passionate friendship “akin to comrades and brothers.”

President Phan Anh Son emphasized that the 12th Viet Nam-China People’s Forum took place at a special time, special place, and special context. It was held right in Chairman Mao Zedong’s hometown and after historic mutual visits by Viet Nam’s General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong (October 2022) and China’s General Secretary and President Xi Jinping (October 2022). The two Parties and countries have established a new position for bilateral relations, building a Viet Nam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.

Comrade Yang Wanming, President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, reviewed the two countries’ relations, particularly highlighting the significance of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping’s visit to Viet Nam in 2023, which deepens the relationship, consolidates and elevates the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, building a Vietnam-China community with a shared future with strategic significance in the “6 better” direction, creating opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries. He underscored that the Communist Party of China and the Communist Party of Vietnam are currently the two largest communist parties worldwide, and are responsible for leading the two countries to contribute to world peace.

The two sides reaffirmed that the Viet Nam-China friendship is a joint asset that needs to be inherited and boosted by all walks of life, and organizations such as the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

Earlier, comrade Shen Xiaoming, Secretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee, received two delegations from the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. At the reception, comrade Shen Xiaoming introduced to the delegations information about the province. Accordingly, Hunan has the 8th largest population in China (more than 66 million people), the 9th highest GDP (more than 500 billion USD), and the 10th largest area in China (more than 211,800 sqkm). Many Hunan businesses have invested in Viet Nam. Notably, Lens Technology, considered the largest screen manufacturing group worldwide, is investing in Bac Ninh province. He also introduced to the delegations eight fragrant rosewood trees that President Ho Chi Minh gift Chairman Mao Zedong in 1965, which were planted in the Provincial Party Committee’s headquarters.

On June 25 and 26, 2024, the Forum focused on discussing three major topics, namely politics and international relations, economics – trade, and humanities – academic cooperation.
