On March 27, 2025, the project seminar, titled ‘Enhancing Ethnic Minority Women’s Roles through Ecosystem Transformation and Sustainable Livelihood Activities in A Luoi District’ (the SODI – A Luoi Project, for short), took place successfully with the participation and cooperation of various organizations, including the Hue Union of Friendship (VUFO Hue), A Luoi District People’s Committee, REDTEA Environmental and Agricultural Technology Research and Transfer Co., Ltd., Center for Knowledge Co-creation and Development Research (CKC), and stakeholders.
The seminar aims to share a common vision, establish frameworks for coordinated action, and set a five-year plan to enhance the capacity of ethnic minority women in A Luoi district to adapt to climate change.
The SODI – A Luoi Project, which is sponsored by SODI (Solidaritätsdienst-international e.V.) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, will be implemented from 2025 to 2029. This project includes four parts: raising awareness, establishing livelihood models, preserving indigenous knowledge, and developing solar-powered lighting systems. The seminar’s programs were designed and implemented to motivate positive and sustainable changes, as well as to promote the traditional values and qualities of women in the local A Luoi district.
Mr. Huynh Tien Dat, the President of the Hue Union of Friendship Organizations and Project Director, delivered a speech at the seminar, emphasizing that: “The SODI – A Luoi Project was developed after a long period of investigating, researching, and discussing with residents about their conditions, capacity, and realistic development needs. Approaching the community directly will create a solid foundation to ensure suitable, successful, and sustainable results, consistent with our guiding principles.”
These interconnected seminar activities are expected to not only directly bring a multitude of benefits to more than 1,000 people in three communes (Quang Nham, Hong Kim, and Hong Thai), but also indirectly make a positive impact on more than 8,500 residents in the area through improved living conditions, infrastructure development, and preservation of the local natural ecosystem.
The representative of the District People’s Committee and the A Luoi Women’s Union emphasized the suitability of project activities, underscoring the determination of district authorities, the beneficiary communes, and local partnership in launching a project that will bring positive and sustainable results to the ethnic minority community in A Luoi.
